Achieving a work-life balance is always a struggle for any business owner, but when you throw being a mom into the mix then the struggle is significantly more difficult. As wonderful and rewarding as it may be, motherhood is a full time job on its’ own.

Here are 5 simple ways to balance being a business with being a mom:

Build Flexibility into Your Business

One of the perks of running your own business include setting your own hours and getting out of the 9-5 schedule. In the effort to achieve a work/life balance, you may find that a strict 9-5 schedule helps but it is important to build flexibility into your business because motherhood does not have a strict schedule.

Schedule so many hours each day for work, for personal time, and for family time. If you have to miss an hour of work for something more important, it’s easier to make up without the chaos and confusion.

2. Being a mom doesn’t mean you can’t _____

Excuses are a dime a dozen, but for every mom who says “I can’t ____” there are hundreds of mompreneurs proving that you can.

In fact, many successful female business owners are also single moms with more than one child. The drive to succeed and support your children is a gift. Rather than giving into fear and doubt, follow the blogs of other mom-preneurs who motivate and inspire you to do that which you are struggling with.

3. Don’t be afraid to grow your business

As a mom, you may be stuck thinking small. You may only want “enough”… but it doesn’t hurt to think bigger and look for creative new ways to grow your business. The sky is the limit, and you will be teaching your children to never settle for less than their very best.

4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

In so many ways, one of the most important decisions you can make is to ask for help. As a business owner, this frees your working-time to focus on what you do best… and growth. As a mom, this frees your time, period. Delegate tasks to the appropriate employees, freelancers, or service providers. Whether it is accounting, marketing, or social media management there are probably several tedious tasks that are making it difficult to achieve a work/life/family balance.

5. Remember to balance life as well as work and family.

As a mom, it can be challenging to see the importance of maintaining a personal life since you’re already struggling with balancing work and family. Even more so for single moms.

However, focusing all of your attention on being a mom / being a business will eventually burn you out. That’s a guarantee. Make sure to schedule and prioritize so many hours each week for personal time. Whether it’s reading a book, running, or spending time with a friend… those hours will ultimately refresh you and keep you motivated.
